2.5 Recording a video

NOTE: Canvas supports .mp4 videos. OBS defaults to .mkv. You can have OBS output your video recording to .mp4 by going to “Files -> Settings -> Advanced” and clicking on “Automatically remux to mp4” in the “Recording” box.

Once you have configured all of your scenes and sources, you are ready to record. The bottom-right of the OBS window has these options listed in the “Controls” window.

Remember, whatever shows in the OBS Preview Window will be recorded. When you are ready, click Start Recording and click Stop Recording when you are done. For your first video, I suggest doing a short recording segment.


When you are done, navigate to “File -> Show Recordings” in the top menu bar of OBS. This will take you to the location that OBS saves your recordings.

Go ahead and open your video. You have now successfully created and viewed your first video with OBS!
