Chapter 8 Electrochemistry

Electrochemistry is a process where charges (anions, cations, electrons) move due to a chemical reaction. One may think about electricity as the the result of electron flow; that is, the movement of negative charge. Oxidation-reduction reactions (or redox reactions) fulfill such a task where the reactant undergoing oxidation (the reducing agent) loses electrons while the reactant undergoing reduction (the oxidizing agent) gains electrons. Therefore, redox reactions are electron transfer reactions.
